Dr. Juan Carlos Salazar is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist with subspecialty training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He has more than 20 years of clinical experience serving children, adolescents, and adults.

He graduated from the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala in 1993. After medical school, he completed nearly two years of psychiatric training at Hospital Nacional de Salud Mental in Guatemala City.

In 1995, he moved to Chicago to join the Psychiatry Residency Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), where he trained until 1999. He then completed a two-year fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Institute for Juvenile Research, also affiliated with UIC, earning his degree as a Child Psychiatrist in 2001.

After completing his academic training, Dr. Salazar relocated to Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He practiced in multiple settings, including private practice with a multi-specialty group, inpatient and outpatient care, the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, and a Community Mental Health Center serving both children and adults.

He later became the Medical Director of Behavioral Health Services at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Over more than 14 years in Southeast Missouri, he treated thousands of patients across all age groups.

In 2015, Dr. Salazar moved to Florida and has been serving the community ever since.

Today, Juan C. Salazar, M.D. is the Medical Director at Compass Counseling Services.
