Dr. Carmen C. Capella, PsyD, is a sensible and empathetic bilingual mental health professional who believes that possessing knowledge of the scientific part of psychology and intervention techniques is basic, but just makes sense when you have the art to stimulate idiographic changes in those around you. A well tuned mind is more effective than medication… that’s what she lives for!

Dr. Capella earned and holds a Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology with Distinction from the Caribbean Center for Advanced Studies Institute of Psychology in Puerto Rico. Dr. Capella currently holds a two years post-doctoral certification in Ericksonian Hypnosis techniques for addressing Depression, Anxiety and Family Issues. She has been in the clinical psychology field since 1998 at her private practice in Puerto Rico and has provided outpatient and group therapy to children, teenagers, adults, senior adults, couples and families. She has worked with a variety of issues including, but not limited to: suicidal teens, severe and chronic mental illness, self-harm, ADHD, anger management, low self-esteem, anxiety disorder, PTSD, debriefing, depression disorder, grief & stress management, marital situations, and family issues. These experiences allowed Dr.Capella to bring psychotherapy in retirement homes, homes, schools, foster homes, and in-office. Additionally, she has educated faculty members in techniques and strategies to teach students with different learning disabilities and attitude issues. Since 1997 Dr. Capella has been treating clients with severe mental illness through hypnosis for the last 10 years.

Dr. Capella has taught undergraduate and graduate courses of Psychological Testing Design and Construction, Neurophysiology, Life Span Cycle, Psychology, Human Development and Introduction to Social Sciences. She has also supervised clinical psychology interns practicing at her private office. She has taught and supervised graduate student interns in their practicum and internship courses that prepare them for the real world as psychologists. Dr. Capella relocated to Florida recently, after hurricane Maria affected her private practice and devastated Puerto Rico. She has provided services as a Clinical Psychologist for Head Starts, Teens Psychiatric Emergency Rooms and as a Forensic Psychologist in Court addressing custody assessments. During the last 10 years, Dr. Capella has studied and researched the relation between nutrition, active lifestyle and behavior wellness.

Dr. Capella attended Catholic seminars in her High School years because she wanted to become a nun and serve The Lord. Nowadays her God-given purpose is to provide people the tools to accept themselves and their particular life situations, live in a positive manner, and take control over their “inner dialogues”. She teaches people the awesome power of the mind, which always supersedes the body, so that they can enjoy a healthier lifestyle and feel empowered to make significant changes in their lives, regardless of the challenges facing them.
